Rockhound - What I Learned in this Unit
1.I learned that in the olden days miners were called prospectors. Prospectors had to carry two years of clothes, food, etc. They traveled to the Yukon.
2. I learned that Pumice can float. Pumice can float because it has tiny air bubbles inside. Pumice is an extrusive Igneous Rock.
3.I learned that gemstones are related to every month. March's gemstone is aquamarine and November's gemstone is topaz. There are many, many kinds of gemstones.
4.I learned that geology is the study of planet Earth. The study of geology encludes rocks and fossils. Geologists may check the colour and hardness of the minerals to tell them apart.
5. I learned that landforms enclude mountains and valleys. Landforms also enclude ravines and caves. Landforms form from weathering, erosoin or shifting plates.
