Rockhound - What I Learned in this Unit

1. I learned that sedimentary rock is made from sea beds. Limestone rocks are sedimentary rocks that are made from the mineral calcite which came from the beds of evaporated seas and lakes and from sea animal shells.

Sandstone

2.I learned that minerals are used in many ways. They can used to make things in homes.

3.I learned that lots of minerals can be found in your home. A fridge is made of copper and iron.

4.I learned that there are two types of mining. There is open pit mining and underground mining. Miners go under the ground to take out the rocks.

5.I learned that humans and other animals affect the land. Some animals make holes in the ground to make thier homes. People cut down trees to clear land for farm or homes.

I would like to learn more about what kinds of minerals are found in Manitoba. I would go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Shield
