Rockhound - What I Learned in this Unit

1) There are three types of rocks, sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have "morphed" into another kind of rock. These rocks were once igneous or sedimentary rocks.

2) Volcanoes make magma that when cooled it turns into igneous rock. After a long time igneous rock can turn into metamorphic rock it has to have heat and pressure.

3) In the Yukon people called prospectors mined for a mineral called gold during the 'Gold Rush'. The prospectors would have to have lots of supplies for a two year stay.

4) Pressure and heat can cause sedimentary rocks and igneous rocks to turn into metamorphic rocks. Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have "morphed" into another kind of rock. These rocks were once igneous or sedimentary rocks.

5) Running water can cause rocks to erode and change their surface. This is called erosionWeathering from wind and rain can also caused rocks to erode and change their surface.

I would still like to learn more about gemstones because I think they are pretty. To do this I would go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/gemstones .
