Rockhound - What I Learned in this Unit

1. I learned that lots of Minerals can be found in your house.

You can find silver in your mirror. You can find iron in your bath tub.

2. I learned that limestone can be used to make chalk. Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the mineral calcite. Pure limestones are white or almost white.

3. I learned that rocks are shaped by erosion. It is not to be confused with weathering. Weathering is the process of disintegration of rocks, soils and their minerals through natural, chemical, and biological processes.

4. I learned that ignious rock is made from cooling magma. Igneous rocks are formed when molten rock cools and solidifies. Magma is lava out side of the valcano. Magma inside of the valcano is called magma.

5. I learned that gemstones are related to your birth month.

My birthday is in May. My gemstone is Emerald Green.
